New Iphone5S for my wife loses network carrier at times.

I can force this to happen if I turn aeroplane mode on and off twice – if I only do it once, the carrier (signal bars) is still there as normal but if I do it twice in succession it says “searching” and eventually “no service”.

If I then try to phone someone the phone immediately changes from "no service" to a few signal bars again and the problem is solved & phone works fine again.

My iphone 6 does not display this issue.

I think it is a software/hardware related problem I am seeing in the Iphone 5S

Great news on my end. I haven't experienced the Searching... and App Store woes since late November. Sometime after 10.1.1 but before 10.2, the problem magically disappeared. Did Apple work with the carrier on this (ATT in my case)? Did they tweak the App Store? I didn't do anything on my end, and one day, things just started working perfectly. Hopefully others have had success too! 🙂

Hi there, i faced this problem on my iPhone 5s with iOS 10.2 so it kept searching for signal even when the simcard was taken out and also noticed a blank Modern Firmware on the device, anyways i came to a thread that suggested an update that would fix the no signal "searching.." problem.

So i backed up the device and updated to iOS 10.2.1 via itunes and voila! after the update the service came back!

i noticed when the phone was being updated that a new firmware was made for the phone (i guess this was what enables the phones cellular function) and the "searching..." was gone and back to carrier signal.

Hope this is helpful 🙂

It's called Planned obsolescence

I got GPS and wifi issues after the 10.3 is update, went today to Genius Bar and....yup they confirmed the iPhone 6 antenna might not be compatible with the new software. And the sad thing they told me there's nothing to do and you should know there's risk when you update your software!!!!!

Well definitely not the Apple we used to know.

Check out your Cellular settings and make sure that they are ON. Tap on Settings > Cellular Data > ON

Check to see that you don’t have any carrier updates pending on your iPhone.

Take out the SIM card and then reinsert it back after 10 seconds.

Finally you can try to reset your Network settings on your iPhone and then give it a try. Tap on Settings > General > Reset Network Settings. Once the device is reset, check and see if your iPhone cellular service is back on

I am also experiencing this issue on my iPhone 6, running iOS 10.0.1. I have already swapped the SIM card, wiped and reset the entire device, reset my network settings.

Currently, Apple support is sending me to a 'Apple Care technician' to have the HW looked at.

This problem started happening in the morning of Sept. 20th, 2016. I have had two occasions where resetting my 'Network Settings', put my device back on the AT&T network for 5 minutes, then the problem started occurred again, and my phone started 'Searching ...' again, and hasn't stopped.

I suspect this is an iOS 10.0.1 update issue.

I'm having this same issue on my brand new iPhone 7, which I received on September 16th. Since I was connected to wifi, I didn't even notice the lack of cell connection for ~24 hours, when I had friends tell me they couldn't call. Right now, I've put my new sim card in my old iPhone 6s (which also has 10.0.1), and it's working fine.

As for my symptoms:

My iPhone 7 typically says "No Service," but will cycle through "Searching" and "AT&T" with 5 bars and LTE - however, even when connected, can't receive calls/messages/data through cell connection.

Specs:

-iPhone 7, 256GB

-iOS 10.0.1

-PC used for iTunes restore: Lenovo x240, Windows 10, iTunes 12.5.1.21

-Carrier: AT&T, Washington DC area

Actions taken:

-4 hours on phone with AT&T, trying every combination of reset/restore/restore from iTunes possible

-1 hour on phone with Apple, walking through same processes; resulted in appointment at Apple Store (that I had to schedule 1 week out...)

Of note, this same issue happened with my girlfriend's iPhone 6 with iOS 10.0.1, but has not been as severe and she normally has a usable cell connection (though her phone will cycle through the "No Service"/"Searching"/"AT&T" status a few times per day). This started after upgrade to iOS 10.

Will post a follow-up after my appointment.
